LEATHER INSPIRATION

It's that time of year again. The nights draw close and the days get darker. It can only mean one thing: leather looks are back. Sleek and sophisticated or rough and ready - there's no better place to start building your transeasonal wardrobe. This autumn sees the fashion set experimenting with textures, clashing this fabric-du-jour with chunky knitwear and sheer silk. For subtle hits, opt for accessories like leather gloves or a timeless tote.

THE KENZO EYE

Another season another enchanting Kenzo motif. In previous collections, the design duo have looked to the skies and explored the jungle for inspiration. For now, the focus shifts to the Lotus eye - a symbol inspired by the mystery of cults and superstition. Highly present across both men and womenswear, it adorns everything from statement knits to low-top sneakers. MATCHESFASHION.COM, Harvey Nicols and Net-a-Porter have all bought into the trend. On my personal wish list are the printed skinny jeans - an urban-cool round-the-clock pair.

MADRID

September : the perfect time for a weekend getaway. The Summer is officially over and its the perfect pick-me-up. This year, I paid my first ever visit to Madrid for a long weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect but what a beautiful city! The perfect combination of culture and commerce - the architecture was steeped in history and the food as Spannish as you like. We walked, we shopped, we ate, we drank, we even watched a live game. The perfect antidote to autumn blues.

CANDY PINK COATS

From Galliano to Jil Sander, Carvan to Rochas, it seemed every AW13 runway collection was littered with candy pink pieces. Proving that pastels aren't just for summer, this sugary tone contradicts winter's neutral palettes, bringing with it a fresh approach to outerwear. 

If you invest in one piece of 'pink' this season, make it an oversized coat. Inspired by the catwalk, only one rule applies : the bigger the better. Whether choosing to layer yours over sleek leathers or fluid silks, opting for bear legs or second-skin denim - its your fast-track route to maximum style points.

NEW OBSESSION : VALENTINO'S NEW NAVY

Navy is most certainly the hue to be seen in this autumn, muted tones making a sophisticated addition to your cold-weather wardrobe. When it comes to Valentino, dark doesn't mean dull. Chic and feminine, these beautiful dresses are inspired by traditional ceramics. Gowns graced the catwalks, but the wearable mini dresses and cute peter-pan collars are what I've got my eye on... A stunning way to wear florals.

LEOPARD PRINT SHOES

Seemingly defying fashion rules, leopard-print remains focal season after season. Never waning, it returns in various colours and levels of saturation. It can own a look. Sometimes it's a mere accessory, accompanying colour-block combinations or all-black outfits. I'm not going to lie, it's never been my print of choice. However... lately I've been somewhat taken by the way it's working its way into footwear. Inspired by shots of street style stars, I am - dare I say - converted. Small in quantity but loaded with impact, it's a great addition to distressed denim and structured leather jackets.
