20Ten Press Day

I was lucky enough to be invited to the 20Ten Press Day on Thursday at Echucha, Nottingham. 20Ten is taking place on the 21st May and is set to be immense. Jenny Bishop and Morgan Parker are working in order to showcase the final collection of the Fashion Design and the Fashion Knitwear students of Nottingham Trent University. The Press Day was a snippet of the level of talent present within the yeargroup and gave guests a taster of exactly what the show has to offer. Ive never seen bar/club Eschucha look the way that it did on Thursday, the girls had organised for a range of mannequins to be set up around the venue and had platforms wtih live models showcasing a range of the clothing.
Some of the sketchbooks were present and a video of a young designer whilst she made her way through a particular garment. The face and name of the student was with held in order to act as a representation of any of those on the course. I loved this touch and the whole event had a really relaxed, personal and welcoming feel to it. Beauty Temple representatives were present to give free massages and Jenny took us individually round the collection talking us through the designs.
Heres some of what we saw...
Jo Bee gave us a preview of her waterfall collection, each piece represents a different stage in the waterfall so im excited to see that in completion!
Claire Hartley chose to look at underwear as outerwear, a massively on-trend choice and something that works particularly well with knitwear considering the history of underwear. she looks at making the most of garments within her work.
Rosie Swindon used a lasor cutter within her work and used research on erotic photography to design her collection. featured is a pair of cut out shorts..sexy.

Tiffany Williams used the heaviest knit out of all students and believe me, i think the model who wears this stunning piece will have to be strong!

Sam Brookes work was inspired by the world wide web.

Alice Pearce; a sample of her collection inspired by memories of young love and secret love notes. Jenny explained that some of her other pieces have printed text on them. She has featured on vogue.com.Carina Hazlegrove's collection is very on trend with the festival season having been inspired by tents. look closely and you'll notice the orange representing the ropes and the structure of the dress being similar to that of tents.

Jenny Williams inspired by architechture in Rotterdam.

Liz Smally acted as representative of the menswear designers. the show will showcase approximately 12 menswear collections.

Rosary Morton created her collection based upon superheros and empowerment.

Ann Blackwell focussed upon the idea of waste and waste disposal and used old shawls to create her pieces.
Ultimately I think the night looks like it will be amazing. Morgan and Jenny have set the standards with the press day and by teaming with Michael Rosan, a pro events co-ordinator from London Fashion Week the show itself is undoubtably going to draw plenty of attention and scope and opportunity for the students showcasing their work. the press day itself was an event that really stood out to me as being different and was oh-so professional. The designs present have left me wanting more and i cant wait to see the rest of the collections on May 21st. Fantastic.
