Kate Watson: Curtosy of Launch My Label by Chic Petite Events
One of the designers featured at the Launch My Label fashion show that I attended on my birthday was Kate Watson. Her work stood out to me in particular as I found it quirky, innovative and refreshing. It reminded me of an exhibition that I went to see at the V and A one Summer that looked at modern sportswear, inspired by Japanese street culture.
Whilst Kate's collection is not sports-related it is inspired by Japanese youth culture. The concept behind her graduate collection 'Phantasmagoria', was circulated around this eclectic theme. It combines silhouette and a strong textile element and incorporates her own hand-illustrated prints, transferred onto fabrics.
The collection is a range of 'oversized proportions and fluid shapes. The designs defy the human body shape, pointing the way to a whole new form of beauty' - global fashion wire.
Launch My Label acted as a really good platform for designers such as Kate to get their collections out in the open and to showcase them in the industry that they are hoping to break into. This designer was certainly one of my favorites from the night - watch this space I reckon!
