Versace for H&M

17th November 2011 saw the launch of the new Versace for H&M collection in London. Already having proven to be a hit in New York the previous week, the designer flew to the UK to introduce her collaboration to the British market. Reports 24 hours later state that the majortiy of items had sold out in no time. The collection consists of statement leather jackets and the leather dress, studded and chainmail dresses as well as accessories : jewellery, scarves and bags. Celebrity appearances at the launch included Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Coco Rocha and Chace Crawford.
Having worked for a web and graphic design agency with a focus on fashion for the majority of my past year, I have to mention the Versace section on the H&M website. Items are displayed in a futuristic, digital form as opposed to using photography and accompanied by a techno-type theme tune. Clicking on the garment takes the shopper to a new page and the brand has used a ghost mannequin-style product shot to best represent it. The flash-style layout means that the lookbook cant be viewed on an i-phone, mobile or i-pad which, for any other brand may be likely to affect sales but I question whether an online store for the collection is even necessary due to the amount of publicity and coverage that has been received.
My two favorite pieces from the collection are the studded dress and skirt below.
