Meadham Kirchoff mark the beginning of the Jubilee celebrations at Topshop

When walking past the Topshop Oxford Circus Flagship store, it is hard to miss the pastel explosion that is the widow display. Showcasing samples of the collection inside and wetting the palette for the visual merchandising treat that continues throughout the store, the summertime hues are surely enticing and appealing to any fashion-concious shopper.

My intrigue surrounding these displays was triggered by the Twitter coverage on the 1st June that surrounded the Jubilee celebration on Oxford Street. I simply had to go and take a look. Tweets such as.. :

We’re celebrating the Jubilee with a Meadham Kirchhoff Fashion Spectacular. Join us live at 5pm!

..built the anticipation and captured my attention, and the collaboration between Topshop and the ever-extravegant Meadham Kirchoff drew crowds both in and outside the store. The gold curtain in the store window on 1st June announced the unveiling to be at 5pm for any passers by. Sure enough, at 5pm the performance began and dancers wearing pastel shades, enormous wigs and flambouyant makeup came overtly posing and prancing down the escalators. The collaboration introduced the Jubilee weekend in an innovative, show stopping and fashion-forward way. Elements surrounding the event such as the store being decorated in pastel balloons (some of which contribute to the VM displays still now) and staff handing out sweet treats to the crowds just added to the atmosphere and the Spice Girls sound track as shown in the above video certainly would have had me dancing along! Overall a statement-making event and innovative idea that has captured the fun of a long bank holiday weekend in London. Bring it on!
