Fur..to buy or not to buy..?

My current interest in fashion is whether or not to invest in a real fur coat. Part of me screams no, part of me says get off your moral high horse. Either way I think that opinions will be cast. There is always someone to tell you that what you have bought into is wrong/ a waste of money/ not even nice anyway. One of my friends advice was simple - do what you want. What I want is to do my research and understand the arguments for and against before making my decision. The fact that I am going to this trouble may be a sign that Im not completely comfortable with it. But at least my decision will ultimately be an informed one.

The link is to a discussion board outlining arguments for and against the making of real fur clothing. Both sides have valid points and I am totally battling with myself as to whether or not this is an acceptable trend to buy into. Whilst I would love the ownership of a gorgeous real fur coat due to the beauty and elegance that these garments communicate, I am not sure how I would feel actually wearing the thing.

Its definitely something that I want to research into properly before I make a decision. This link has had me hooked for a good hour at least. Reading the justifications for and against I can agree and disagree with both. I dont think it fair to go straight in and say that videos like the youtube clip below, brought to my attention by a friend, are a totally convincing argument. Why should I take notice of that when said friend is happy to eat meat and not worry about the source of the food? Whilst I agree that it is not necessary or essential for humans to wear fur in this day and age, it is also not necessary for us to eat meat.. Similarly, when buying a pair of leather shoes, a bag or a belt the majority of us wouldn't think twice. Yet is this more socially accpetable?

Quote from an argument against that I agree with: 'We have been wearing fur simply for fashion, and fashion is never a good reason to take a life.'
Quote from an argument fro that I agree with: 'The carefully managed use of animals to provide necessary food, clothing and other necessities for humans is an acceptable moral practice that has continued since the beginnings of the human race.'
