Backstage #RAFW Hair&Makeup

With my Access All Areas pass I was lucky enough to go backstage and experience some official backstage action. The media love it, and are always trying to get interviews and pics of the models off the catwalk. Apparently it takes 2 hours to get one model ready for a show. Hence the 96 hairdressers that are on board. Each of these beings a suitcase of products and equipment with them and honestly look like they are going on holiday for 2 weeks.

Mark the hair director had a spreadsheet of 4 A3 pieces of paper stuck together mapping out who was to e where at every hour of the week. Each show has a totally different look from the prevous and the models were often working back to back shows.

An example of the most ridiculous situation was the sprayed black hair that the models (mostly natrally fair haired) had to have for the offsite Dion Lee show. This look was then washed out in a bucket in the back of a limo on the way back to the OPT ready for the next, flowing, romantic and historical look that the following desinger had planned. As you can imagine - one show runs late...the whole day runs late. These designers have been working on their collections for 6 months solid and its down to the hair and makeup team at MAC and REDKEN to ensure everyone looks perfection.
