Sara Phillips : Day 2 #RAFW 11am

This was the first show that I saw that utilised the ability to decorate the space in the Cargo Theatre. An $11,000 tree was set up in the middle of the catwalk, creating a centrepiece for the models to walk around, and a mood within the show. The theme and inspiration around the collection was instantly set for me upon entering the space, and this is always something that I look for within a creative show, event, performance or collection. For me, the elements that contribute should always remain consistent and tell a story. Each seat was also adorned with a flower next to the goody bag and the running order decorated with a nature-themed pattern made up of mainly snakes.

As for the collection, it was said to be inspired by the deigners relationship with the Australian landscape, making it a perfect addition to RAFW which showcases only Australian designers. It was compiled of a selection of gorgeous fabrics and eye-catching prints, a new take on the usual floral patterns we see each Summer as it involved lizard prints, a selection of snake designs and native flowers instead of cliché designs. One particular piece that stood out to be was the cut out structured black dress. Cut outs is a trend that I was seeing a lot of over the week and looks set to be key for S/S over here in Australia. Colours were again somewhat neutral as an underlying pallet but incorporated the burnt orange and mustard/gold tones that were so widely used, as well as pinks and earthy greens.
