Circ du Soleil at the Acer Arena : Saltimbanco
Earlier this month I went with friends to see Saltimbanco performed by the incredible performers of Circ Du Soleil, at the Acer Arena in Sydney. The venue itself was just as I had expected and very much like Wembly Arena in London. The architecture of such a structure is enough to wow you without even seeing the show!
A vivid performance of colour, vibrancy, live music and acrobatics this show was everything I had hoped for. The first act was introduced with the impressive Chinese pole dancers (not he usual kind) whose athleticism and core strength allowed them to work in perfect synchronisation to amaze the audience. Also in the first act was a miming clown, a bicycle acrobat and juggler who we counted worked with up to 8 balls. Comedy is a big part of the show and each performer communicated a different personality through their act.
In the second half the space the live band was more prominent and the acts became more dramatic - I didnt know where to look half the time! Acts including the use of the Russian Swing and the company worked together as a team to support and perform with one another.
One of my favorite parts of the show was the similar looking trapeze artists working without a safety mat and risking a huge fall above the stage. Next were the 'strongmen' and the show is concluded with a dramatic finale of trapeze, bungee and theatrics.
Altogether a fantastic show and something that I would love to re-visit one day!
