It did not disappoint in any way whatsoever. We stayed in Nusa Dua, a holiday resort area of the island and the hotels were picturesque and built with the traditional Balinese architecture and style in mind. A totally different experience to many of the more Westernised holiday destinations that I have spent time in, the traditions of the island were apparent in all aspects of the trip - from the dress-code of the hotel staff to the market stalls and coconut stands on the beach.
We spent one day with a driver who took us on a tour of the island. We explored the markets in Ubud which were like an Aladdin's cave of treasures of all kinds of items, visited a temple, the rice fields and a Bassike factory (a style of decorative fabrics created by hand).
