Todd Lynn : The experience behind the collection

Being backstage for the Todd Lynn LFW show yesterday really brought the collection, the risks behind the designs, the anticipation of the audiences reaction and the dedication to the showcase into perspective. One of my favorite parts of being involved in these events is experiencing the passion behind the shows. These collections have months and months of hard work and planning invested into them and for the few hours before the collections are revealed, the event space is pandemonium. I'm not saying the stress levels and lack of sleep circulate only around the one day for these designers and their teams - hell no! this too, lasts for months, but it all comes to a peak right about now. And the celebrations afterwards are as intense and lavish as the shows themselves.

Described as being ' new but recognisable' by the Fashion Week reporters, Todd Lynns AW 2012 collection presented impeccable tailoring in a turtery pallet of muted greys, golds, dark indigo and dusky oranges. The shaping was strong, statement-making and confident and structured with trousers that flared out into a pleat at the front and dresses with solid crepe backs.

The hair was slicked back into a low, over the ear pony-tail that my mother would have died for in the 70's and makeup was statement-making and prominent. An altogether powerful look, completed with fantastic studded boots with loose ankles designed especially by Christian Louboutin. Completed with a Libertines soundtrack the show was sexy, striking and strong. For me, the statement look was the high collared studded floor length black dress shown above.
